iCloud Drive

Extracting the most of iCloud Drive

There exists a feature in iCloud that allows you to sync the Destkop and Documents folders among your Macs. But what if you only want to sync the Desktop?

Two terminal commands can solve this issue. Basically you will: 1) move the Desktop folder to iCloud Drive 2) symlink the moved folder to the Desktop location.

The commands move the Desktop folder at the root of the iCloud Drive folder, but you can put it anywhere you want by just modifying the path in the commands.

sudo mv ~/Desktop /Users/<yourusername>/Library/Mobile\ Documents/com~apple~CloudDocs/
ln -s /Users/<yourusername>/Library/Mobile\ Documents/com~apple~CloudDocs/Desktop /Users/<yourusername>/Desktop
